Vatican (Agenzia Fides) - The missionary formation course, focused on the contents of the Apostolic Exhortation “Evangelii Gaudium”, organized jointly by the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU), the International Center for Missionary Animation (CIAM) and the Secretariat for Missionary Formation of the Lazio Region, is coming to an (see Fides, 21/1/2023). Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th will be the ninth and tenth events in a series of course events that began in January this year. "We have made an effort to re-read the entire text ten years after its proclamation," emphasizes the Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen OFMConv. It is about rediscovering the fruitfulness of a text that "is of fundamental importance for the church today". "A look into the future from Ad Gentes, Evangelii Nuntiandi, Redemptoris Missio, Evangelii Gaudium" is the theme at the heart of the two events, which will take place as usual from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Italian time) in Rome at the headquarters of CIAM (Via Urbano VIII No. 16) and participation will also be possible via the Zoom platform (participation is free and open). (Registration for participation "in presence" or the allocation of login data for online participation takes place via the email address pum@ppoomm.va). As with the other course events, Sister Maria Rosa Venturelli (SMC) and the Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union will moderate the event. On November 23rd, Prof. Rosalba Manes from the Pontifical Gregorian University (Faculty of Missiology) and Dr. Gianni Valente, Director of the Fides Agency, will speak, while Father Fermo Bernasconi of the Comboni Missionaries and Sister Giustina Tavarner of the Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament will speak on the 24th. A series of testimonies and reports from Jerusalem, Amazonia, Haiti and Mongolia will be presented in person and online in the evenings. "In these two evenings we try to summarize not only the encounters but also the general content of 'Evangelii Gaudium' in the light of the development of the missionary magisterium from 'Ad gentes' to today," comments Fr. Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen (OFMConv.) "to highlight the pillars of missionary reflection for today and for the future. We continue to dream of a fully missionary Church and a new era of missionary activities in Christian communities, as the Pope said in his message for World Mission Day last year and has emphasized this year".
