Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - Every year the Pontifical Mission Societies in Colombia promote a Holy Childhood Day to foster greater missionary awareness among children and efforts to help less fortunate children by means of collections and various activities. The slogan of the Day is “We are disciples and missionaries of Jesus” to recall that children too must be messengers that the world may love and be reconciled and know about God’s love for all men and women .
To celebrate this Day the Pontifical Mission Societies office in Colombia has prepared catechesis with the aim of motivating children to feel in their hearts the commitment to be and to act as disciples of Jesus. The main message to transmit is that God calls every person to be a disciple of love: “God relies on you that the situation of children in the world may improve”.
Initiatives suggested by PMS Colombia to celebrate the Day include: encourage children in different groups to pray the Missionary Rosary every Saturday in May; place Holy Childhood money boxes in aid of poor children at different points of the parish; take an active part in Sunday Mass of Holy Childhood Day. Children could also be asked to pray in preparation for the 5th General Conference of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences next year in May, that the Holy Spirit may guide the work of the continent’s Bishops.
