AFRICA/LAREUNION - Resignation and appointment of Bishop of Saint-Denis-de-la Réunion

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On July 19, the Holy Father accepted the resignation of the pastoral government of the diocese of Saint-Denis-de-la Réunion, in overseas France, presented by His Exc. Msgr. Gilbert Aubry.
The Holy Father has appointed Rev. Pascal Chane-Teng, from the clergy of the same diocese, until now vicar general and secretary of the presbyteral council, as bishop of the diocese of Saint-Denis-de-la Réunion in overseas France.
Bishop Pascal Chane-Teng was born on July 4, 1971 in Le Tampon (La Réunion). He obtained a Masters degree in General Law in Aix-en-Provence and in Private Law in Clermont-Ferrand, France, where he then specialized in Commercial Law. He then obtained a Licentiate in Art History, also in Clermont-Ferrand, and attended courses in Philosophy at the St. Denis Seminary, La Réunion, and in Theology at the Bayonne Seminary, in France.
He was ordained a priest on August 15, 2004 for the diocese of Saint-Denis-de-La Réunion. He has held the following positions and carried out further studies: Parish Vicar at Saint-Benoît (2004); Chaplain of Catholic Action for Independent Circles (2005); Parish priest in solidum at Saint-Benoît (2005-2007); Formator at the interdiocesan Seminary (Mauritius) (2007); Diploma at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome on the relationship between Chinese culture and Christian anthropology (2008-2010); Licentiate in Missiology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome (2010-2012); Administrator of the parish 12 km, in Le Tampon (2012); Parish priest of Notre Dame de la Délivrance (2013-2017); Parish priest of Sainte-Marie and Member of the Council for Interreligious Dialogue (2017); since 2018, Vicar General and Secretary of the Presbyteral Council. He has also held various positions in the diocese such as: President of the Ecclesiastical Union, Episcopal Delegate to the Major Seminaries in France, Head of the Pastoral Project Team for Catholic Teaching, Member of the Theological Commission of the C.E.D.O.I., Moderator of the Assembly of the C.E.D.O.I.
