Daloa (Agenzia Fides) - "Improving people's health is a way of fighting poverty". Starting from this principle, Father Ysmael Herbin Gbagoué, a missionary in Daloa, spoke of the need to restructure a dispensary that the Society for African Missions runs in Zakoua. "We need quality medical instruments - explained the SMA priest. Among the objectives there is also that of being able to start a maternity ward and a pharmacy. We have several nurses teaching courses for women, so that they can collaborate in the prevention of illnesses in their children". Zakoua is a small village located a few kilometers from the city of Daloa, in the central-west of the country. In this suburb, as well as in the neighboring ones, the population does not have state health centers, and has to travel many kilometers to find a nurse or a doctor. Among the most widespread diseases, tuberculosis and AIDS prevail, however malaria still remains the main cause of morbidity and mortality in Daloa. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 14/7/2023)
