Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Rev. Fr. Roland Vunuvung, of the clergy of Rabaul, currently parish priest of Vunadidir and deacon of Kokopo, as bishop of the diocese of Kavieng (Papua New Guinea).
His Exc. Msgr. Roland Vunuvung was born on August 11, 1959 in Vunapope, in the Province of East New Britain. After entering the St. Peter Chanel Minor Seminary in Ulapia, he continued his philosophical and theological studies at the Holy Spirit Seminary in Bomana (Port Moresby), earning a degree in theology.
He was ordained a priest on November 24, 1985 for the Archdiocese of Rabaul.
He has held the following offices and carried out further studies: Assistant parish priest of the Cathedral of Rabaul (1985-1989); President of the Urban Youth Provincial (1986-1989); Parish priest of Valanguo, West New Britain (1989-1991); Director of the program of the Pre-Seminary of Lanuzell and Director of Vocations of the Archdiocese of Rabaul (1992-1998); Studies in Philosophy at the American College of Louvain in Belgium (1998-2003); Professor of philosophy in the seminary (2004-2008); Parish priest of Vunakanau (2008-2014); Rector of the interdiocesan Major Seminary of Rapolo (2012-2015); since 2009, Deacon of Rabaul and, since 2016, Parish priest of Vunadidir and deacon of Kokopo.
