Maumere (Agenzia Fides) - "We celebrated the Feast of Saint Camillus, we welcomed ten novices and four members of the Order made their temporary vows while twenty-three renewed their vows and two deacons and four priests received the sacrament of Holy Orders", reports Italian missionary Father Luigi Galvani from the Order of the Ministers of the Infirm (Camillians) and pioneer in the diocese of Maumere.
"The promotion of vocations will always be our priority", affirms the missionary. "On the other hand, in the social and charitable field", continues Father Galvani, "we continue the monthly nutritional program for 150 needy families and the rehabilitation project for the mentally ill, freeing them from chains or other cruel methods and building small houses for them where they can move freely and have a bed and a toilet. So far our mission has already built 85 houses (see Fides, 15/3/2019). This pioneering initiative is a credit to the mission and is greatly appreciated by the various authorities". The Camillian points out that the vocation crisis is not being felt on the island of Flores at the moment. "Last May - he writes - about fifty deacons received the sacrament of Holy Orders in the various institutes and dioceses of the island. The women's religious orders are also lively and are particularly committed to promoting vocations. The island of Flores always remains, as has been stated on other occasions, the 'little Vatican' of the Church". "We hope that the Holy Spirit will give us these good results for a long time to come", the missionary concludes. (LG/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 20/6/2023)
