Apessito (Agenzia Fides) - "A few days ago we inaugurated the Msgr. Marion De Brésillac Medical and Social Center in Apessito in the large suburb of Lomé.
The Muslim village chief, the Iman, and the chief of the local police were present at the inauguration and underlined the collaboration between Catholics and Muslims for the common good", said Father Silvano Galli to Fides. "A few official documents are still missing, but the structure is open and operational", added the priest of the Society of African Missions who is attending the SMA Preparatory Seminar in Lomé.
The Center will be directed by Sister Régine Bellamy, of the Missionary Congregation of Our Lady of the Apostles (NDA). The missionary will be joined by six health workers including a doctor, a midwife, a laboratory technician and a group of nurses who are already on site and ready to receive and treat patients. The maternity ward, minor surgery, laboratory analysis and support for the sick, are among the services that stand out. The entire structure and material of the Center was totally paid for by the SMA of Togo, with the participation also from Italy. "We don't really know how many people are in this new neighborhood. We think there are around five thousand, it is constantly growing and every time we go there we find new buildings. There is an indescribable fervor of activity".
Regarding the resumption of life for the students of the Propaedeutic Seminary, Father Silvano recounted how the rhythms of normal daily life have resumed. "We have resumed our normal life, the prayer life, the community and fraternal life, the study life. In fact, it is the last week for our students, then there will be the exams and the closing of the year," said Father Silvano. "Each young person here in the house also has specific tasks within the community, each is responsible for the proper functioning of an area of community life. We therefore have the delegate for culture and recreational evenings, the delegate for culture and recreational evenings, the delegate for sport, the person in charge of the sacristy, the kitchen, house maintenance, manual work, relations with the fathers and the teaching staff".
