AFRICA/MALAWI - Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Mzuzu

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda, of the clergy of Mzuzu, until now rector of the Kasina Spiritual Formation Center, as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Mzuzu, Malawi, assigning him the titular see of Catrum.
Msgr. Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda was born on 20 June 1976 in Wozi, district of Mzimba, in the diocese of Mzuzu. He carried out his studies in philosophy at Saint Anthony’s Major Seminary in Kachebere and in theology at Saint Peter’s Major Seminary in Zomba.
He was ordained a priest on 19 July 2008 for the diocese of Mzuzu.
After ordination, he first served as parish vicar of Katete (2008-2010) and of Mzambazi, (2010-2014); diocesan vocational director (2012-2017) and parish priest of Saint Augustine (2014-2017). After obtaining a diploma in canon law from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairoba, Kenya (2016-2018), he was rector of the Christ the King Formation Center (2017-2018). He was then awarded a diploma in religious formation and spirituality from the Lumen Christi Institute, Arusha, Tanzania (2018-2019).
