ASIA/MYANMAR - Appointment of the Bishop of Loikaw, Celso Ba Shwe

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Rev. Celso Ba Shwe, of the clergy of Loikaw, currently Diocesan Administrator as Bishop of the Diocese of Loikaw (Myanmar).
His Exc. Msgr. Celso Ba Shwe was born on July 22, 1964 in Momblo, in the Diocese of Loikaw. He obtained a Baccalaureate in History at Yangon State University before entering St. Theresa Minor Seminary in Taunggyi (1988). He completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at St. Joseph Major Seminary in Pyin Oo Lwin and Yangon (1989-1994). He was ordained a priest on April 16, 1994 for the Diocese of Loikaw.
He has held the following positions: Parish assistant at Doungankha (1994-1995); Diocesan Director of the Voluntary Evangelizers (Zetaman) and youth, Loikaw (1995-1999); Diocesan Co-Procurator, Loikaw (1999-2000); Attorney General of the Episcopal Conference of Myanmar (CBCM), Yangon (2000-2009); Parish priest of the Sacred Heart, Phasaung (2009-2010); since 2010, parish priest of Christ the King Cathedral, Vicar General of Loikaw and, since 2020, Diocesan Administrator of Loikaw.
