Dili (Agenzia Fides) - The World Mission Month campaign of the Pontifical Mission Societies in East Timor goes to prisons, hospitals, homes for the elderly. The focus of the initiatives that take place throughout the month of October in the Diocese of Bacau are places of pain but also of healing. Visiting prisons and health care facilities should commemorate places where the preaching of the gospel meets people whose lives are marked by suffering, failure and pain and, at the same time, by expectations of rehabilitation, healing and comfort.
The World Mission Month campaign in October – Fr. Bento Barros Pereira, director of the PMS in East Timor, reports to Fides - "is an initiative that we renew every two years and in the context in which we live. This year, the initiative is particularly aimed at young people: the children and young people of the Pontifical Children's Mission Society and their carers, as well as the diocesan directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies, have spent moments of common prayer and sharing around the chosen theme. The motto of this year's campaign is inspired by the verse of the Gospel of Mark (10, 14) 'Let the children come to me, for they too will be my disciples'".
The program includes daily Mass, praying the rosary together and Eucharistic adoration. The group meetings were divided into several sessions, each chaired by the President of the Bishops' Conference of East Timor, Bishop Norberto de Amaral, some diocesan directors and by Fr. Bento Barros Pereira. The campaign also includes exhibitions dedicated to missionary childhood and adolescence and to Blessed Pauline Jaricot, foundress of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, whose life and work was also the focus of a film in the evening. The experiences "in the field" had a great impact on the participants where they visit unique mission sites such as prisons, hospices and hospitals. "The missionary campaign," emphasizes the director of the PMS of East Timor - is also about enlivening the mission with concrete actions. These days, with the help of God's grace, we can find the strength to continue our ministry with more momentum. It is important to walk together, like the disciples, in order to live the mission of proclaiming the Gospel in a spirit of universality". (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 15/10/2022)
