Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On May 27, 2022, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle appointed Rev. Fabian Obi, of the diocesan clergy of Awka as Rector of the "Blessed Iwene Tansi" major theological Seminary in Onitsha.
The new Rector was born on February 22, 1962 and was ordained a priest on August 12, 1989. He studied philosophy at Saint Joseph's Seminary in Ikot Ekpene, and theology at Bigard Memorial Seminary in Enugu. He earned a Doctorate in Theology with a specialization in Church History from the Catholic University of Louvain, and a Licentiate in Church History from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He carried out his pastoral ministry as assistant parish priest in two parishes, and as parish priest in two other parishes. He was also a Notary at the diocesan ecclesiastical court.
Since October 2020 he was Acting Rector of the same Seminary of which he is appointed Rector. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 16/9/2022)
