Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) - With the motto "Territories in movement for Peace", the Episcopal Conference of Colombia (CEC), through the National Secretariat for Social Pastoral Care and various regional and national social organizations, is promoting the 35th edition of the "Week for Peace", which will be held from 4 to 11 September 2022.
As the note sent to Fides underlines, this year the organizers have chosen a motto that highlights the territory to give strength to the concept that "the territories express the diversity and the social, cultural and political vitality of the country. Here tensions, conflicts and the harshness of violence are experienced, but hope, resistance and courageous efforts are also manifested in the construction of decent living conditions: peace is woven day by day from the territories".
The Week for Peace is a citizen mobilization whose objective is to make visible the daily effort of thousands of people, groups, organizations, institutions, who work in the construction and consolidation of peace, as well as to make known initiatives inside and outside the territories. It takes place in September within the framework of Human Rights Day in Colombia and the feast of San Pedro Claver on 9 September.
In 2022, 35 years have passed since the Week for Peace took place in a permanent and organized way, supporting and making visible various citizen initiatives with actions and messages in accordance with the context and the political moment of the country. The objective is to strengthen social awareness of the urgency of building a solid and lasting pluralist and participatory peace process in Colombia, with a view to national reconciliation.
For the occasion, the Department of Liturgy of the Permanent Secretariat of the Colombian Episcopate (SPEC), has prepared a liturgical guide for the opening mass of the Week for Peace and the prayer scheme for the meetings during this week. The Communications Office has prepared a series of contributions that can be published on social networks. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 3/9/2022)
