New York (Agenzia Fides) - Personalized messages at local level are to be created as part of the campaign of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States for World Mission Day.
This year, the directors and collaborators of the offices of the mission societies in the US dioceses will present themselves in video messages recorded during the national meeting last June in California (see Fides, 14/6/2022).
A 30-second video will be published on each diocesan website and shared on social media. The message contains the following basic invitation to all: "On this World Mission Day, join Catholics around the world in praying and donating generously to the missionary work of the Church. Thank you for your help!".
"It is important that we use every opportunity we have to ask for prayer and support on World Mission Day," said National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States,
Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington. "And we believe that this personal appeal from the local face of the Pontifical Mission Societies will have an impact in the diocese." Also part of the communication campaign is a complete "package" of posters that will be made available to parishes. In addition to the theme of the World Mission Day message - "You will be my witnesses" (Acts 1,8) - the poster illustrates the importance of giving on World Mission Day and highlights the many needs of the Church around the world: the work of catechists, priests and religious, as well as mission schools and pastoral work. Additional digital materials, including parish bulletins and announcements, and help for the homily, are in preparation and will be published on the dedicated PMS website.
