Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - Recognizing and valuing the elderly in the Church and in Korean society, helping grandparents to bear fruit according to God's will, in line with Pope Francis' message for the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly 2022: with this objective, the Secretariat for the Pastoral Care of the Elderly, in the Archdiocese of Seoul, has organized a digital photography contest entitled "Let's do things with grandfather and grandmother".
As reported to Agenzia Fides in a note from the Communication Office of the Archdiocese of Seoul, the contest, launched on July 24, is open to everyone: anyone can participate by sending photos taken with grandparents while spending time with them. "A long life - teaches the Bible - is a blessing, and the elderly are not outcasts to be avoided, but living signs of the goodness of God who gives life in abundance", explains the motivation for the contest, inviting the faithful to send your photos. The selected photos will form a special collective photo exhibition, dedicated to the elderly, which will be exhibited at the Myeongdong Gallery, where the Seoul Cathedral is located, next October 2022.
"I hope that many faithful take advantage of this opportunity to spend quality time with their grandparents and capture those moments by taking photos together", said Father Esteban Na Jong-jin, head of the Pastoral Care for the Elderly in Seoul, in a note sent to Agenzia Fides. The goal, he explains, is "to encourage the faithful to build a culture of love by promoting intergenerational solidarity, in harmony withGrandparents' Day, established by Pope Francis in 2021".
In Seoul, Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick, OCD, presented the initiative to the faithful during the mass celebrated on July 24 at Myeongdong Cathedral on the occasion of the second World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, wishing a lively participation and highlighting the valuable contribution that grandparents and the elderly make to the Church and to society as a whole.
