AMERICA/ECUADOR - After two years, the pilgrimage to Santa María Madre de Guayaquil, "Mother of Life, Mother of Peace" resumes

Guayaquil (Agenzia Fides) - The Archdiocese of Guayaquil and the Sanctuary of "Santa María Madre de Guayaquil", after two years in virtual mode, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, are preparing for the VII Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Santa María Madre de Guayaquil, Patroness Saint of the city. This great celebration, informs the note sent to Fides, will take place next Saturday, July 16, and will begin with the procession of the parishes to the Sanctuary, followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary and the Holy Mass presided over by Monsignor Luis Cabrera, Archbishop of Guayaquil. Every year, on the third Saturday of July, the pilgrimage of the entire archdiocese to the Sanctuary takes place, with the aim of promoting the devotion of the faithful and love for the Virgin Mary. The complete program of the day includes the beginning of the pilgrimage from the different parishes at 4.30 in the morning. At 5.50 am the original painting of Santa María Madre de Guayaquil will enter the church and be placed on the altar. This will be followed by the prayer of the Holy Rosary and the novena. At 7 am the Holy Mass will be presided over by Archbishop Luis Cabrera, with the participation of seminarians. In the afternoon, at 6.30 pm the Holy Rosary and at 7 pm, Mass presided over by the parish priest, Fr. Yair Rodríguez. At 8 pm the "Marian Serenade" with Mariachi and the "Night of Lights" on the hill of the Sanctuary.
Finally, various parish choirs will sing songs to Mary at the end of the feast. Santa María Madre de Guayaquil is the Patroness of this Archdiocese. In the oil painting inspired by Msgr. Antonio Arregui, archbishop emeritus of the city, the painter Arturo Guerrero represented the Virgin Mary with the features of the woman of Guayaquil, dressed in Creole dress and carrying her Child Jesus in her arms, who responds to her hug by giving her a flower.
