Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - New priestly ordinations on the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, on June 29, to give energy to the mission of evangelization in mainland China by strengthening the synodal path. Msgr. Paul He Zeqing, Ordinary Bishop of the diocese of Wanxian, presided over the ordination of Fr. Joseph Jiang Fuxin, who studied at the National Seminary and now serves the diocese. The day before, still in the Wanxian Cathedral dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, Msgr. Paul He ordained a deacon.
The Diocese of Leshan, in the province of Sichuan, also welcomed two new priests on June 29. According to information gathered by Agenzia Fides, the two newly ordained priests, who obtained their baccalaureate at the Major Seminary of Sichuan, shared their great joy with the Catholic community, fellow priests, sisters, lay faithful and family members present.
After the death of Msgr. Peter Wu Junwei, Bishop of the Apostolic Prefecture of Xinjiang/Yuncheng, in Shanxi province, on May 10, the Catholic community nevertheless tried to overcome this moment of mourning and continue the life of the Church. One of these occasions was the solemn priestly ordination of Father Jia Hongwei, celebrated on June 13, the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua. A year earlier, exactly on May 31, 2021, the feast of the Visitation of Our Lady, Father Jia Hongwei had been ordained a deacon by the late Monsignor Wu. Presiding over the priestly ordination in Yuncheng Cathedral, Archbishop Meng Ningyou of Taiyuan, the provincial capital, encouraged the faithful to courageously pursue the mission and the pastoral commitment in the footsteps of Msgr. Wu. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides, 1/7/2022)
