Karachi (Agenzia Fides) - "God wants us not to harden our hearts towards the faithful, we must listen to them and love them. As priests, our hearts should be like the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a heart of flesh, not of stone. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a vulnerable heart, which teaches us to always be merciful and to be always ready to forgive and to announce the love and mercy of God. This is the path that Jesus himself followed and gave us as an example": as Fides learned, this is what Monsignor Benny Mario Travas, Archbishop of Karachi said, addressing the 5 new priests ordained in the clergy of the Archdiocese and the faithful gathered in St. Patrick's Cathedral on 24 June, on the occasion of the presbyteral ordination of the new priests in the Archdiocese of Karachi.
Msgr. Travas also stated: "We must always be ready to proclaim God's love and mercy through our words and actions, because God himself has shown his love and mercy in the life of each of us. We experienced his love, his forgiveness and his mercy. In order to be perfect men following Jesus Christ, we must live these three values of the Sacred Heart of Jesus". The Prelate added: "The world is facing a shortage of priests and we thank God that there are enough vocations to the priesthood in our Archdiocese. There is also a good number of seminarians who are in formation and are preparing to become future priests. We thank God because he sends workers for his harvest". The Archbishop, in expressing his joy at the ordination of the five young people, exhorted the new priests to live close to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of all priests, and to always be humble to serve the faithful in the Archdiocese. With the five new priests, the Archdiocese of Karachi now has 41 diocesan priests who, together with the religious priests, carry out the mission of the Church in the sixteen parishes of the Archdiocese of Karachi to accompany more than 200,000 Catholics on a pastoral level.
The Archdiocese of Karachi covers an area of 180,000 square kilometers, in the metropolitan area of the city of Karachi. The local Church is actively involved in the field of health and education with more than 100 educational institutions and two hospitals. (AG/PA) (Agenzia Fides, 30/6/2022)
