ASIA/BANGLADESH - Appointment of the Bishop of Barishal

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Rev. Emmanuel Kanon Rozario, currently Vicar General of the Diocese of Rajshahi, as Bishop of the Diocese of Barishal (Bangladesh).
His Exc. Msgr. Emmanuel Kanon Rozario was born on February 8, 1963 in Pabna, in the Diocese of Rajshahi. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Dhaka. He was ordained a priest on December 28, 1993.
Since his priestly ordination he has held the following positions: Vice Parish Priest in Bonpara, Rajshahi (1994-1997); Doctorate in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome (1997-2002); Parish priest in Borni, Rajshahi (2002-2007); Dean of Studies (2007-2011), Vice Rector (2012) and Rector of the Major Seminary in Dhaka (2012-2018); Parish priest in Kolimnogor, Rajshahi, and in charge of the Diocesan Office for Development and Administration (2018-2020). Since 2021 he has been Vicar General, Parish priest of Rajshahi Cathedral and Executive Secretary of the Doctrinal Commission of the Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh and of the Office for Families and Youth of the Federation of Bishops' Conferences in Asia (FABC).
