Rome (Agenzia Fides) - In 2022 the Comboni Missionary Sisters and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians celebrated the 150th anniversary of the founding of their congregations. A brief report sent to Agenzia Fides by the General Sector of the Missions of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), brings together the two Congregations animated by the same missionary charism. "The Comboni Missionary Sisters, founded in 1872 by Daniele Comboni, are an exclusively missionary institute for women dedicated to the mission ad gentes, thus responding to the prophetic intuition of Comboni, who recognized the need to assign religious sisters to the evangelizing activity of the Church", says a statement on the anniversary.
"The sisters can be found in Africa, Europe, America and Asia. They come from 33 nations, work in 30 countries on four continents and have more than 1,200 members". "The Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians - continues the note - was founded on August 5, 1872 and the Sisters are consecrated women who live in community and are among the people, expressing their radical love for Christ in their educational service to the young people, especially those most in need. From the very beginning, the institute has been characterized by missionary passion. Just five years after its foundation, the first missionary expedition left for Uruguay. They are currently present on all five continents". "What these two congregations have in common is their missionary passion," the report continues. Its founders, Daniele Comboni and Don Bosco, met several times since 1864 and shared their passion for God and people, going to the ends of the earth". During the jubilee service, which will take place today, June 3, in the Lateran Basilica in Rome, all other congregations will be commemorated that are celebrating their 150th anniversary this year.
