Jakarta (Agenzia Fides) - The vocation to consecrated life is an invaluable gift for the Church and for all Indonesian society: this was witnessed by priests, religious and nuns of the parishes of the archipelago in the occasion of the "World Day of Prayer for Vocations", also known in Indonesia as "Vocation Sunday" and celebrated yesterday, May 8.
priests, religious and nuns in the parishes of the archipelago.
Many religious, during the various celebrations or masses, shared their experience of “consecrated persons” and their vocational history, dwelling on the particular call of the Lord to follow him. This type of story gets a lot of attention from Indonesian devotees
Sister Theresina and her sister Sister Ancilia, both nuns of the Congregation of Charity of St. Charles Borromeo (CB), were in the parish church of Bayat (Central Java) to share their life stories. Sister Theresina CB, a professional nurse, enthusiastically recounted her life
at the service of human life, in the kindergartens of West Java, and also at the service of Creation, through an environmental defense program.
At St. Mary Mother of God Parish in Wedi, Klaten District, Central Java, dozens of boys and girls "showed up" at the altar in their consecrated "vestments", attracting the attention of faithful on their happy life as consecrated persons.
In the church of Kleco in Surakarta (Central Java), several religious men and women had a particular experience of "immersion": they went to local Catholic families for an awareness program, Fx Catholic Juli Pramana tells Fides.
"Consecrated persons must stay 1 to 2 days in the local Catholic family, share their life and bear witness to their family and neighbors. They recite the prayer of the rosary with the inhabitants, visit the elderly and the sick", explains Pramana.
Vocation Sunday becomes a fruitful event especially for the special meeting with young people: for them, explains Pramana, who is the director of a Catholic school, the parish church of Kleco organized a gathering in the outdoor stadium of the Regina High School Pacis, where different figures of consecrated people shared their "secrets" in a different way, exhorting young people to respond to God's call. In these awareness programs, Pramana adds, religious from various male and female congregations took part. (MH/PA) (Agenzia Fides, 9/5/2022)
