Taza (Agenzia Fides) - A dozen families in the city of Taza, in the northeastern mountain range of Morocco, have received assistance and support services for their children aged 7 to 12. Thanks to a project led by Sister Angeles Olga Castro, Spanish, of the Missionary Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, on mission in the Muslim city of 150,000 inhabitants (see Agenzia Fides 11/3/2021), the little beneficiaries can enjoy private lessons at home given by two Moroccan teachers. In addition, around 30 sick elderly people have also benefited from a subsidy to be able to cope with medical treatment that would otherwise be impossible to sustain. In fact, Taza has always been a poor region, where it is difficult to cultivate the land or raise animals. For this reason, many mountaineers have traveled to the popular areas of the city. But finding a job is difficult, and the challenges for families are many.
The project, supported by the Society for African Missions (SMA), is aimed primarily at the poorest people and the most vulnerable categories: children who remain without school and without a future, and the elderly who cannot receive treatment and medication. (MP/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 9/5/2022)
