AFRICA - The Bishop of Agboville elected President of CEREAO/RECOWA

Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishop of Agboville (Ivory Coast) His Exc. Msgr. Alexis Touably Youlo, was elected President of the Regional Bishops' Conference of West Africa (CEREAO/RECOWA) during the Fourth Plenary Assembly at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Durumi in Abuja. He succeeds the Archbishop of Abuja, His Exc. Msgr. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama who headed the regional body since 2016.
Msgr. Touably Youlo, who was vice-president of CERAO/RECOWA, will lead it for a 3-year term renewable once.
"There are Cardinals and Archbishops among us and it is to me, poor country bishop, that they have kindly entrusted this responsibility", said Msgr. Touably Youlo who was president of the Episcopal Conference of Ivory Coast from 2011 to 2017. "I give thanks to God who allows everything and I count on the support of my brothers in the episcopate of Ivory Coast to help me lead this service of the Church". (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 7/5/2022)
