AFRICA/MADAGASCAR - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, rev. Jean Claude Rakotoarisoa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On December 14, 2021, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed the rev. Jean Claude Rakotoarisoa, of the diocesan clergy of Tsiroanomandidy as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Madagascar for a five-year period (2021-2026).
The new National Director is 50 years old and has been a priest for 22 years. He holds a Masters in Theology, in Madagascar, and a Doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, in Rome. After his priestly ordination he was chaplain of the hospital, vicar of the Cathedral, treasurer, diocesan secretary, high school headmaster, vicar and head of the Andrianomadio missionary district. After his studies in Rome, in 2017 he was elected apostolic Administrator of the diocese of Tsiroanomandidy until the election of the new bishop, in July 2021, when he was appointed Vicar general.
