Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The Intercultural Training Course (CENFI) organized by the Missionary Cultural Center (CCM), an organization linked to the Brazilian Episcopal Conference, has 22 participants, priests, men and women religious, from 16 different countries, who will prepare for missionary work in Brazil. The course started on the evening of April 5th and will end on July 1st. Father Djalma Antônio da Silva, director of CCM, welcomed the participants recalling the Missionary Jubilee Year that the Church is living in Brazil (see Fides, 17/11/2021) with the theme "The Church in a permanent state of mission" and the motto "You will be my witnesses" (Acts 1,8).
The Auxiliary Bishop of Rio de Janeiro and Secretary General of the Bishops' Conference of Brazil (CNBB), Msgr. Joel Portella Amado, presided over the opening celebration. After two years of pandemic, he expressed his great joy of being able to meet people again, and highlighted that the course has reached its 122nd edition: "We are happy to see that something which began small, today continues to be important, current and indispensable for the evangelizing action in Brazil". According to the note released by the CNBB, Monsignor Portella explained that with training, none of the missionaries will abandon their way of being, their history, tradition and culture that they received from their country and their ancestors. To the formation received in the dioceses and congregations of origin, something specific to the Brazilian way of being will now be added. For the Bishop there is "joy and beauty" in this. At the end of the celebration, the director of the CCM asked for the blessing of Our Lady, Queen of the Missions, for the missionaries, so that once their formation is over, they can bring the joy of the Gospel to all the people they meet in the missions in Brazil. The course consists of two modules. The first of these is the immersion in the Portuguese language, in the second module, to which another 7 students will join, the aim is to help the missionaries to understand the formation of the Brazilian population and culture.
