Ramallah (Agenzia Fides) - The schools of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem operating in Palestine celebrate their first programmatic conference in the name of realism and the search for new strategies and new paths to continue to carry out their educational mission in a context marked by increasingly pressing social, economic and health emergencies. The three-day Conference focused on the theme "Capacity Building, Opportunities and Challenges"., It began this Thursday, March 17, under the patronage of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Palestinian Ministry of Education, and the Arab American University (a private university founded in 2000 in collaboration with American academic institutions). And it is being held at the Al-Rayhan theater, northwest of Ramallah. The conference - reports abouna.org website - is attended by, among others, Bishop William Shomali, Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem and Palestine of the Latin Patriarchate, the representative of the Minister of Education, Suhair al Qasim, the representative of the President of the Arab American University, Dr. Muayyad Abu Sa`a, and mother Sophie Hattar, Superior General of the Congregation of the Rosary, together with nuns and priests from Palestinian parishes and headmasters of the schools of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. As part of the Conference, Patriarch Pierbattista Pizzaballa also awarded the prizes of the "Creative Teacher" competition to teachers who have distinguished themselves by their creativity, dedication and efficiency in fulfilling their educational vocation.
The panels and workshops organized within the framework of the Conference are characterized by a practical and concrete approach to the real problems that arise in the educational work carried out in the Palestinian context. Accredited experts and consultants will present methods for dealing with learning difficulties associated with situations of social and psychological difficulty. Several interventions will focus on how to improve the teacher-student relationship, with the aim of adapting educational systems to specific situations in order to bring out the "multiple intelligences" of students. Much space will also be devoted to the exploitation of technological techniques and tools in the teaching of Arabic, mathematics and scientific subjects. The goals achieved by the schools of the Latin Patriarchate, even at a difficult time for the educational sector, strongly affected by the pandemic, confirm the vitality and solidity of a Christian educational experience that has long contributed in a concrete way to human and spiritual growth of the local population, mostly Muslim. A mission carried out also thanks to the contribution of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher. (GV) (Agenzia Fides, 18/3/2022)
