Rome (Fides Service)- The Catholic Bishops of Africa have decided to hold an all African Congress to assess evangelisation efforts in the past ten years. The Symposium of Bishops’ Conferences of Africa and Madagascar SECAM announced this decision at the end of a meeting of its Standing Committee in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire 3 to 7 April
The Congress, will be held next January either in Tanzania or Mozambique on the theme “Evangelisation in Africa: Ecclesia in Africa looking at the past and the future”.
SECAM president Archbishop John Onaiyekan of Abuja, Nigeria, will discuss ways to promote evangelisation in Africa. The Congress “will discuss more effective ways and means of spreading the Christian faith in Africa, lead to the incarnation of the Christian message and the birth of authentic witnesses to Christ” said Archbishop Onaiyekan calling on all the Bishops of Africa to be more strongly committed to SECAM activities.
The SECAM Standing Committee called for more collaboration between SECAM and Caritas-Africa and closer cooperation between African Religious Congregations and African Bishops. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 10/4/2006 righe 19 parole 204)
