AFRICA/IVORY COAST - The role of the family, respect for society and generosity towards others at the center of Missionary Childhood week

Saturday, 26 February 2022 missionary childhood

Agboville (Agenzia Fides) - "For this edition of the week of missionary childhood, we have put family, respect and generosity at the center. These are basic values for the development of a society", explained Father Modeste Konan, diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies of the diocese of Agboville, in the Southeast of Ivory Coast, and diocesan chaplain of the Holy Childhood.
The parish of Saint Jean-Paul II of Adzopé recently hosted the fifth edition of the Encounter of the Holy Childhood, as part of the celebration of missionary childhood. About 900 children from the different parishes of the diocese participated in this three-day event, which offered various activities and training sessions on the chosen theme. "To these children, who are the future of the Church of Agboville, we spoke about family, respect and generosity towards others, necessary elements for the life of a missionary", explained the chaplain of the Holy Childhood of the diocese. Drawings, dances, poems and stories made it possible to translate in a creative way the themes proposed to these children, to whom Mgr Alexis Touably Youlo, Bishop of Agboville, spoke in particular of the theme of generosity. He invited the children to be generous souls and to bear witness to this in their different environments. During these days, the children made their contribution, through collections, to the universal solidarity fund, as is the charism of the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood, which aims to awaken in children the desire to to be missionaries to help other children, hence the slogan 'children help other children', both by teaching them the need for prayer and by supporting them materiallyl.
