AFRICA/MALAWI - Kuwala FM: Catholic radio station, an important instrument of evangelization

Limbe (Agenzia Fides) - "May this radio be an instrument of unity and help us to promote political and cultural tolerance in our country", said the Archbishop of Blantyre, Msgr. Thomas Msusa, on the occasion of the official launch of Radio Kuwala FM, one year after the start of the broadcast" (see Fides, 27/7/2020).
"It is an important tool of evangelization, the fifth Catholic radio station in Malawi", stressed the Archbishop, urging the faithful to make good use of it both for spiritual formation and to strengthen socio-cultural solidarity. During the official launch ceremony of Kuwala FM, the Minister of Information and Local Digitization, Gospel Kazako praised the Catholic Church and Archbishop Msusa for all the initiatives proposed for the development of the Malawian community. "It is a pleasure to have more radio stations ready to fill the information gap. Be assured of the government's support in this important initiative", he said addressing those present, expressing his joy at seeing the Church increase its presence in the media industry. The function took place at the Cathedral of Limbe, where the Kuwala studios are located, on February 5, 2022. The ceremony was simple and began with the blessing of the studios and equipment by Archbishop Msusa, legal owner of the radio . Together with the Minister of Information, they toured the studios and had the opportunity to speak live to Malawians. Lux Mund, a Latin phrase meaning Light of the World, is Kuwala FM's motto. The live broadcasts began on February 1, 2021, reaching all districts of the Archdiocesan Metropolitan See, which includes the Dioceses of Chikwawa, Zomba and Mangochi.
