Ciego de Ávila (Agenzia Fides) - Within the framework of the 25th anniversary of the Cuban diocese of Ciego de Ávila, erected on February 2, 1996, the different pastoral areas celebrated the jubilee together with the communities. The diocesan meetings were to begin with the opening of the Jubilee Year, but due to the continuous waves of Covid-19 that have seriously affected Ciego de Ávila, the first could not be held until December 2021 (see Fides 11/1/2022). On Sunday, February 6, the diocesan pastoral care of catechesis celebrated the Jubilee together with the community of Chambas. As reported by the communications service of the Bishops' Conference, catechists from different communities participated in the Eucharist presided over by Monsignor Juan Gabriel Díaz Ruiz, Bishop of Ciego de Ávila.
In his homily, the Bishop urged the catechists to be attentive to the call of Jesus, since "the Lord did not come to call us in a special place, but he called us there, in the midst of our lives, in the midst of our daily occupations and concerns". During the celebration, the Bishop gave a special blessing to the catechists present and urged them not to lose sight of their mission, which "is not to transmit concepts", he said, "but rather to transmit the faith, it is to make that small seed of faith that was planted one day... grow and bear fruit".
During the meeting, the participants shared with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart and the Augustinian fathers, who are involved in the pastoral care of the parish, some significant moments of the diocesan history through the "25th Anniversary" photographic exhibition.
Within the framework of the Jubilee Year that the Church is experiencing in Ciego de Ávila, this was an opportunity to gather around the altar the community of Chambas and a representation of the catechists of the diocese. The message of Bishop Juan Gabriel Díaz Ruiz was addressed to them in a special way, motivating them to be witnesses of the faith, witnesses of Jesus Christ, because "the catechist must be a person who has a profound experience of his faith, a great fidelity to Jesus Christ and a deep intimacy with the Lord".
