Paris (Agenzia Fides) - The day after Missionary October and with a view to the beatification of Pauline Jaricot, scheduled for May 2022, the Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies of France has launched this week the first missionary reportage contest "Prix Pauline Jaricot". "Our effort to promote projects like these is maximum: such projects are born from the desire to give a voice to those who do not usually have it, recounting the constant commitment of missionaries that continues day by day, despite the many difficulties", the French PMS explain to Fides.
This initiative is perfectly part of the tradition of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, founded by Pauline Jaricot, and created to promote the missionary spirit among the faithful.
The requirements to participate in the initiative are: to be between 18 and 30 years old; present a mission trip project or a recent volunteer or study abroad trip experience and the passion to inform about the life of the local Church and the desire to share, through articles, photos, videos or radio reports, the own experience of the universal Church and to bear witness to the encounter with fellow Christians. The figure of Pauline Jaricot, is an indispensable source of inspiration, to whom this award is dedicated and whose faith, combined with creativity, resourcefulness, foresight, was put at the service of missionaries from all over the world, giving life to a unique work in history. "Nourishing the faith, hope and charity of all by informing of the missionary dynamism of the Church, awakening the missionary awareness of young adults, promoting spiritual and material communion in the Church, supporting evangelization in the world and helping and accompanying young people who want to serve through testimony, information and communication are the objectives of the award that bears the name of Pauline Jaricot", explain the organizers. The contest, whose calendar can be consulted online, offers two possibilities for participation ("departing" or "travelling"), with the deadline for submitting applications in both cases being September 30, 2022, as well as the award ceremony, which will take place during World Mission Week (October 16-23, 2022). Thanks to the collaboration with the Catholic media RCF, Aleteia, Famille Chrétienne and KTO, training in reporting techniques will be offered to all those who participate in the "departing" mode. The latter are also offered the possibility of accessing a scholarship to cover travel expenses, upon acceptance of the application and the opportunity to get in touch with the global network of PMS. For the others, whose trip is in progress or has already been completed, participation in the contest will consist of preparing and presenting their report. (E.G.) (Agenzia Fides, 2/12/2021)
