Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The meditations for the Advent of the "missionary journey" proposed by the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) for the new liturgical year are online on the website of the Pontifical Mission Societies. "The desire is to start again from the Word of God to form and raise awareness for the mission - explains Fr. Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, OFM, Conv, Secretary General of the PMU and author of the meditations. The purpose of this appointment that we begin with Advent is to offer a useful tool for ongoing formation and missionary animation. I spoke about it in the last General Assembly of the PMS.
It is a process conceived above all for the National Directors of the PMS and their collaborators, to whom the texts of the comments in several languages will be sent every week, for their use, but we share them on the digital platform so that all the faithful can have access in order to reflect on the Word of God and deepen their vocation as disciples-missionaries of Christ".
Every Thursday, the meditation on the Bible readings for the following Sunday will be posted online. "Each Mass has in itself a missionary character, since it is the active community witness to the Christian faith of the participants. The link between the mass celebrated and the mission of the Church appears clearly with the final greeting which sounds in the original Latin "Ite missa est" (hence the term mass for the Eucharistic celebration) - we read in the introduction to the masses of the season of Advent -. This general liturgical-missionary context is lived in particular in the Eucharistic celebration of the days and Sundays of Advent, when, through the prayers and readings provided for each Mass, the aspect of waiting for the coming of the Lord is emphasized".
At the beginning of each meditation, therefore, the readings planned for the following Sunday are highlighted, together with a missionary Bible commentary divided into three main points and, at the end, some useful ideas for living the Sunday Gospel in a missionary key in daily life. "Always within the framework of ongoing formation based on the Word of God, the message to the National Directors of the PMS emphasizes the possibility of listening to and consulting every Sunday on YouTube the commentary in English by Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, in The Word Exposed program, produced by Jesuit Communications", Fr. Nguyen concludes. (E.G.) (Agenzia Fides, 27/11/2021)
