Managua (Agenzia Fides) - "The Church, as Mother and Teacher, does not stop calling everyone to build peace ... We ask the faithful to continue praying so that Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace, and the Immaculate Virgin Mary, continue to accompany the people who do not lose their unshakable faith in God and do not abandon their hope for a better future for their country". This is the appeal addressed "to the people of God and to people of good will" by the "Justice and Peace" Commission of the Archdiocese of Managua, which has as its title one of the Beatitudes: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice because they will be satisfied" (Mt 5-6). The message recalls that according to the Social Doctrine of the Church, "to build a society made up of people with the dignity of being living images of God, the search for the common good is necessary as a basic foundation, accompanied by fundamental principles such as freedom, justice, truth, charity and the search for peace".
The common good, underlines the text sent to Fides, implies that "all citizens can live in the tranquility that their rights are respected". Everyone has the right to act in full freedom and according to conscience in order to personally make moral and political decisions. "No one must be forced to act against his conscience, nor must he be prevented from acting according to his conscience" as the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches. "Those who hold public power, by law or de facto - reiterates the Commission -, have the responsibility of seeking the common good of the nation, without any distinction, respecting the fundamental and inalienable rights of citizens. Only in this way can a society be built in which the dignity of the human person prevails". (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 22/11/2021)
