Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) - Taking care of vocations, making them grow and supporting them in the mission countries where they are born: this is the goal of the AdoMiS Project, "Distance adoptions of seminarians in mission lands", now in its ninth edition and carried out by the Pontifical Society of Saint Peter the Apostle, within the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Poland. The Society of St. Peter the Apostle (POSPA) is, among the four Pontifical Societies, the one that has at heart the promotion of the support and development of vocations to priestly and consecrated life in the recently founded missionary Churches.
There are two theological seminaries that, in recent years, have received the help of AdoMIS and are located in Madagascar (Moramanga) and Peru (Iquitos). Since this year, the preparatory seminary of St. John Maria Viannej in northern India (Chabua) has been added, which welcomes students from 15 dioceses. In all 140 seminarians and a dozen formators have benefited in the current state of this project born on October 1, 2013 with the aim of providing spiritual and material support to future priests in mission countries. One can join this initiative both through daily prayer for the adopted seminarians, and through financial support. This can be done individually or in a group, in a parish or community. The funds raised are mainly intended for the maintenance of seminars in mission countries, including the construction and renovation of buildings, the purchase of books and all kinds of necessary equipment and tools. For the year 2020 the funds amount to approximately 76,600 US dollars. On November 4, the day on which the Church celebrates the liturgical memory of St. Charles Borromeo, who at the Council of Trent (1545-1563) was postulator of the organization of theological seminaries, the PMS in Poland launched the ninth edition of AdoMIS. Fr. Guy Bognon, general secretary of POSPA, on a visit last October to the National Direction of the PMS Poland, thanked those who have worked and continue to do so for this project and stressed the need for the formation of seminarians in mission countries, who currently are about 80,000 in the world.
Among the new initiatives aimed at this purpose there is also "Tailor-made", joint project of the Polish PMS and the Congregation of the Sisters Disciples of the Divine Master who will donate 1% of the proceeds from the sale of priestly shirts for the formation of seminarians in mission countries. The project, which began on Good Shepherd Sunday (World Day of Prayer for Vocations), will last one year. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 19/11/2021)
