AFRICA/UGANDA - To promote the spiritual well-being of the faithful: new parishes open in the diocese of Lira

Monday, 15 November 2021

Lira (Agenzia Fides) - "In addition to the spiritual nourishment of Christians, the opening of new parishes in the diocese will bring, among others, further developments in the social sector such as schools, health facilities and other multipurpose recreational centers". Mgr. Sanctus Lino Wanok, promoted the opening of new parishes to extend sacramental services to the lay faithful and promote other social sectors. In two months, three new parishes were erected, that of St. Peter Claver Ober in the city of Lira, St. Luke Evangelist Aputi Parish in the district of Amolatar and St. Mary Immaculate Parish in the district of Oyam.
In the opening message of these new structures, Mgr. Wanok stressed the need for Christians to support them by working in union with their priests and other pastoral workers to ensure their full development and support. The project for the opening of new parish structures had already been started in other villages (see Fides, 14/9/2021). Together with the community of Christian faithful, Arago Patrick, vice president of the parish pastoral council of Aputi, 150 kilometers from the capital Kampala, said that this service of opening new parishes is promoting the spiritual well-being of the lay faithful. According to Arago, the opening of new parishes nearby will also serve to bring the faithful closer to their spiritual leaders and to facilitate access to the Sacraments.
