Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of the American continent who met online on November 11, elected Father Maurício Jardim, National Director of the PMS in Brazil, as the new Coordinator of the PMS in America, for a period of three years. The National Director of the PMS in Uruguay, Fr. Leonardo Rodriguez, after nine years at the head of the PMS in his country and four years of commitment to the service of the Continental Coordination, has in fact decided to start an experience of a hermit's life.
Fr. Leonardo highlighted in his speech the importance of the continental coordination of the PMS, which "translates into a strong commitment to the service of fraternity, in communion and in the animation of the initiatives that the General Assembly indicates in its annual session".
Fr. Maurício Jardim expressed his feelings as follows: "With surprise and fear, I accepted this new missionary challenge of the PMS of the Americas, in a spirit of universal brotherhood, service and communion". He recalled that he begins his service on the eve of the important "missionary Jubilees" of 2022 and the beatification of Pauline Jaricot, who "gave her life to the missionary cause open to universality, creating a network of prayer and solidarity to support the universal mission". In addition to the process of renewal of the PMS that is underway, he cited the path towards CAM 6, which will be hosted in Puerto Rico in 2024. "May our life of faith, mission and universality mark the path of deepening our charism, which is at the service of the Pope and the local Churches", highlighted Father Maurício.
