Addis Ababa (Agenzia Fides) - The Apostolic Prefecture of Robe was created by Propaganda Fide on February 11, 2012 (see Fides, 13/2/2012). Since then, almost ten years have passed and, among the many challenges, the presence of the Catholic Church continues to be present. The first Apostolic Prefect appointed, Fr. Angelo Antolini, Capuchin friar, OFM Cap., was in Rome in October 2021 to meet for the first time the current Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle. For the occasion, the director of Agenzia Fides, Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, OFM Conv., conducted an interview with Fr. Antolini in which the Apostolic Prefect highlighted the salient points of the mission in which he is working at a particularly critical moment for all of Ethiopia.
After a broad overview of the realities of the first evangelization in the territory entrusted to him, the Apostolic Prefect also presented the mission of Gode, in the Somali region of Ethiopia, where a new very small community was opened, which currently sees the presence of only three Catholics, a nun and two boys ... In this mission of evangelization, which covers an area equivalent to a third of Italy, Father Antolini is assisted by seven other missionaries with whom he shares the local reality and the daily challenges.
