Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - The Latin American Episcopal Council (Celam) has published the general program of the First Ecclesial Assembly of Latin America and the Caribbean, which will be held from November, 21 to 28 in Mexico City (see Fides, 23/1/2021; 25/1/2021: 23/2/2021; 20/4/2021). In view of the Covid-19 epidemic, more than 1,000 representatives from all over Latin America will participate face-to-face or through videoconference.
More than 80 Mexican representatives will attend the meeting, and other representatives will participate through the online platform.
As the note from Celam sent to Fides informs, activities will be promoted through social networks of the Ecclesial Assembly and Celam, and welcome believers to pray for the conference, participate in celebrations, and have dialogues with the local Church. The online virtual press room has also been set up for the media of the continent and the world so that they can access materials, schedule interviews and attend press conferences. The opening ceremony of the first Latin American and Caribbean church conference will be held at the pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Guadalupe on November 21 at 11 am local time, presided over by the President of Celam, His Exc. Mgr. Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, OFM, Archbishop of Trujillo. The inaugural act will take place on Monday 22, with greetings and various messages (from the Prefect of the Congregation of Bishops, from the Mexican Episcopal Conference, from the Holy Father) and the first report on the theme "The centrality of Jesus Christ and his Word in our pastoral action". On Tuesday 23 the second talk will be on the theme "Integral pastoral conversion and the four prophetic dreams" and the third, Wednesday 24, on "The Church in missionary outreach". On Thursday 25th the main moment will be the panel entitled "From the Ecclesial Assembly of Latin America and the Caribbean to the Synod on Synodality". On Friday 26th the fourth report on the theme "The synodality of the People of God: witnesses". Each day includes group activities, testimonies, debates on the topic and moments of prayer.
On Saturday the 27th, the closing ceremony of the conference and a letter to the people of God will be published. On Sunday on the 28th, the Pope’s Special Envoy will preside over the Holy Mass and the solemn ceremony dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 9/11/2021)
