Monday, 25 October 2021

Tombura Yambio (Agenzia Fides) - While the country continues to experience a very serious humanitarian crisis, the children of the diocese of Tombura Yambio do not give up celebrating the Day of Catholic schools with the aim of bringing hope and self-confidence to the troubled State of Western Equatoria.
The celebration, which is held every year, is part of the diocese's programs. It usually brings together all the Catholic educational institutions of the diocese. These include the Catholic University, high schools, secondary schools, primary schools and pre-primary schools. The Eucharist celebration was celebrated by ad interim Vicar General of the diocese Fr. Charles Tombs. Remembering St. Daniel Comboni, diocesan patron of education who brought the first seed of Catholic faith and education to the then Sudan, Fr. Tombe said: "St. Daniel Comboni invites us to start life anew to be closer to Jesus Christ and to achieve something new that was not there before through education".
"Despite the challenges, it is important to focus on what we want to be - added the vicar general. We can fulfill ourselves only if we work for the peace that comes from God, this means completely accepting Him", continues the note sent to Agenzia Fides.
"We are united by God for the mission of bringing peace to people", pointed out Fr. Tombe adding that students and pupils are being educated to be competent people who should work for unity and love for all humanity in the near future.
"We believe that in order to achieve the mission of Catholic Education in the Catholic diocese of Tombura-Yambio, we must develop our ability to act as a continuously learning community", said the Bishop of the diocese, Msgr. Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala in the message read in his name by the Vicar during the celebration. Encouraging pupils, students, teachers and all those who work in the education sector of the diocese, the Bishop said that the goal of all Catholic schools is to provide a Catholic education that inspires all students to learn and experience academic growth in a safe and welcoming environment based on the values of the Gospel. The charism of diocesan Catholic schools is to serve God and the community with courage and integrity; see the shining light in every child. School Children We Are for Peace was the theme of this year's celebrations, which began with the gathering of all the schools in Yambio Freedom Square in the morning and marching through the city to the Parish of St. Mary Mother of God in Yambio.
The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio currently has five higher education institutions, 8 secondary schools in eight different parishes, 28 primary schools and 24 nursery schools. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 25/10/2021)
