Kigali (Agenzia Fides) - In Rwanda, the celebration of World Mission Sunday (October 24, 2021) will also mark the opening of a special Jubilee Year which, in full harmony and communion with the Holy See and the universal Church, will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the foundation of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, 200 years of the founding of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, 100 years of the Pontifical recognition of the Society of St. Peter the Apostle and of the Society of Missionary Childhood and 150 years since the birth of the Founder of the Pontifical Missionary Union, Blessed Paolo Manna.
It is precisely for this reason that the National Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Rwanda is planning a series of activities throughout the year, aimed at making the work of the PMS better known. In particular, there will be specific programming on Radio Maria and PACIS TV; a documentary film will be produced with the aim of helping the support of the projects by making them known, of understanding the importance of missionary animation and education for universal charity, and paper material will also be prepared and distributed to parish communities.
The solemn inauguration mass of the Jubilee Year will be celebrated in Kabgayi and a significant participation of the local press is expected. Each diocese will choose the first parish for the beginning of this Jubilee and the closing of the celebrations will take place in the Diocese of Nyundo on World Mission Sunday in 2022. Meanwhile, the work of animation and formation organized by the Pontifical Mission Societies in Rwanda continues, with a view to World Mission Day 2021. Supporting the missions and missionaries is a gift that pays a hundredfold: this was the main theme of the training workshop held last August in Kigufi (Nyundo). During three days of study and discussion, the diocesan Directors of the PMS meditated on the nature of their mission with the faithful and on the fundamental character of the multiplication of animation tools to make the PMS known. Archbishop Anaclet Mwumvaneza, Bishop of the Diocese of Nyundo, recalled the crucial role of the PMS in the proclamation of the Good News around the world and urged all participants in the workshop to integrate the use of new communication technologies in their planning to sensitize Christians and encourage them to evangelical generosity.
