AFRICA/UGANDA - World Mission Sunday: evangelization and missionary charity

Kampala (Agenzia Fides) - Evangelization and charity are an integral part of mission and the Church exists to evangelize and proclaim the love of Christ to people. This is what Father Pontian Kaweesa, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Uganda, told Fides on the sidelines of a meeting in view of World Mission Sunday on October 24, 2021. After having spread the Pope's message and the theme of World Mission Day (entitled «We cannot be silent about what we have seen and heard»), in a recent meeting on a digital platform with the diocesan directors of the PMS of all 19 dioceses of Uganda, there was talk of new digital ways of animation and fundraising. There are three points under consideration: new forms of animation in the dioceses, preparation for World Mission Sunday and the use of innovative digital means for the fundraising campaign. For the first point, the participants suggested using digital media to spread the word of God and prayers in families and parishes. At the same time, the local radio and television stations, which were essential during the lockdown imposed by the pandemic, should continue to be used. In preparing for World Mission Sunday, it is hoped that this year celebrations can take place without any particular restrictions. In any case, praying the missionary rosary remains fundamental in every family, group and religious community. Regarding the collection of donations for missionary projects, there are plans to create a membership list for each of the Pontifical Societies and to use digital means for fundraising campaigns. In October, the Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Uganda will also broadcast information and animation programs on Radio Maria, Uganda, Radio Sapientia and the Catholic Television of Uganda (UCTV).
