AFRICA/ZAMBIA - Renewing the common home: the bishops inaugurate the time of Creation 2021

Friday, 17 September 2021

Lusaka (Agenzia Fides) - "There are many people who do not have food or water due to the damage to the environment. Urgent action is needed to renew our common home", said Father Gabriel Mapulanga in the course of his homily during the mass for the launch of the month for Creation 2021.
The Catholic Bishops of Zambia wanted the initiative and, through the Secretariat, invited the whole society to take better care of the environment. Father Mapulanga spoke of the disastrous consequences, such as drought and floods, due to climate change that have led to the loss of so many human lives.
The Catholic priest who works for Caritas Zambia also invited everyone to reflect and pray for the earth during this month for Creation, which began on September 1 and will end on October 4, 2021. "The earth is a common home both for those who do not have food and for those who have it in abundance. It is also necessary to think of others and focus on this year's theme which is "Restoring our common home", reads the note sent to Fides. At the end of the launch of the 2021 Creation season, the staff of the Catholic Secretariat planted fruit trees at the presbytery for the priests who work at the same Secretariat.
