Milan (Agenzia Fides) - The celebrations of the ninetieth edition of the missionary "Congress" of PIME (Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions) begin on Saturday 18 September, which will culminate in the Holy Mass, on Sunday 19 at 10.30, with the delivery of the Crucifix to the missionaries and to the departing missionaries. This year the Congress, always open to all, coincides with the important anniversary of the arrival of the first Fathers, 170 years ago, in Papua New Guinea: the program of the feast is also a tribute to the founders, to their adventure, to the historical heritage they constituted.
As the note sent to Agenzia Fides informs, on the occasion of this anniversary, in 2021 the PIME Foundation launched the "Sister Papua New Guinea" campaign both to raise funds to ensure the population a chance to live up to the dignity of every human being, as well as to inform the Italian public on the environmental and social problems of Papua New Guinea, through the media, exhibitions, activities, meetings with scholars and authors, events, conferences, shows ...
"We celebrate the founding values of the missionary spirit between culture and entertainment, for a restart together towards a new future", underline the organizers. On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September there will be a series of activities inspired by the challenges and beauties of Papua New Guinea: workshop for children, guided tours of the Peoples and Cultures Museum, internal itinerary of Public History, lottery drawing, shows made by the PIME Theater , solidarity stands .... With regard to missionary projects, there will be special information points by the competent offices: the Projects Area, the Missions Support and Distance Support Area.
