Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) - On the occasion of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the birth of Blessed Father Paolo Manna, PIME missionary, born in Avellino on January 16, 1872, founder of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU), the National Secretariat of the PMU in Poland has prepared a collection of texts, of a formative and spiritual nature, for personal and community prayer. As Fr. Luca Bovio, IMC, National Secretary of PMU in Poland, informs us, the author of the collection of texts is Sister Monica Juszka, who defended her doctoral thesis writing on Blessed Paolo Manna. The texts have been carefully selected from the Holy Scriptures, the documents of the Church and the writings of Father Manna. In addition, Sister Monica has also prepared some questions for reflection and prayer. These texts will be published monthly, from this month of September 2021 to June 2022, on the website of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Poland.
Blessed Father Paolo Manna (1872-1952), priest of the Institute for Foreign Missions in Milan, worked for a decade in eastern Burma, until he had to return to his country due to a serious illness. For more than 40 years he devoted all his strength to spreading the missionary idea among the people and the clergy. In 1916 he founded the Missionary Union of the Clergy, which later became the Pontifical Missionary Union, and which is present throughout the world with the aim of forming and encouraging all the baptized in their missionary responsibility.
