Port Moresby (Agenzia Fides) - Over the years the FMA sisters have dreamed and planned to create their own technical school for women. The long awaited day has finally arrived. 'Dream Big for the ladies' presented on May 15, 2021, opened the way last Monday, July 26, to the new Technical Institute of Mary Help of Christians (MHCTI).
"We are deeply honored for your visit - said Sister Juliet De Leon, missionary of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), Animator of the 'Dream Big for the ladies' project, addressing Hon. Justin Tkatchenko and Governor Powes Parkop for support. "Both your presence and your support confirm your constant dedication to education, to offer more opportunities for the young people of Papua New Guinea, to become productive members of their families and communities, as well as to underline your interest in female emancipation. in our society".
"This is a great initiative of the Catholic Church for the benefit of our women and girls and on behalf of the City I am very happy to support it without hesitation - reads the note sent to Agenzia Fides. Without the support of the Catholic Church, the government would not be able to reach young people, the Church is a strategic partner for the city and the Country".
For the FMA and the Salesian Family there is no greater dream than educating the young because educating means evangelizing.
"It is precisely in these difficult times of pandemic that everyone's collaboration is necessary to improve the precarious conditions of many boys and girls through education in particular, technical and professional, building more workshops through the guidance of the Salesian sisters and their lay collaborators in the mission", said Fr. Gregorio Bicomong, SDB Provincial Superior, who praised the efforts of the FMA to start, next year 2022, the institute for marginalized and at-risk young women. "The Technical Institute of Mary Help of Christians is a true milestone in the history of the spiritual, human, intellectual or integral development of the young women of PNG".
Hon. Tkatchenko expressed his gratitude and addressing the sisters, said: "The Catholic Church has invested so much in PNG, time, effort and energy without fear. May the Word of God guide you for the benefit of our people and the Technical Institute of Mary Help of Christians is one of these special realities". (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 29/7/2021)
