Kota Kinabalu (Agenzia Fides) - May young people be "creative evangelizers" during the time of the pandemic: this is the invitation expressed by Msgr. John Wong, Archbishop of Kota Kinabalu, speaking at the "Sabah 5" Youth Day, an event which, organized virtually, began on July 19 and ended yesterday, July 23. As reported to Fides, the Archbishop exhorted young people connected online "not be discouraged although they were only meeting virtually for the biggest celebration of Catholic faith in Sabah, but to be more creative and have more initiative to reach out to one another". The Archbishop suggested to young people to "maximize the use of modern technology", keeping in contact with others, "by organising formations and help others, especially those who are affected by the COVID-19, in a spirit of brotherhood to encourage each other", he said. "As Catholic youth in this modern era, keep in touch with reality. Dear youth, use your talents for the glory of God so that you are able to move on, no matter what era you are in", he said. And then continued: "Be convinced that the Lord is with you, He will guide you. Be convinced in your faith, be a true and active witness of Christ. Be on fire for God". The Prelate wished: "Be the salt and light wherever you are. Be creative evangelizers". Previously, Archbishop Wong presided over the opening mass of the celebration in the Catholic Archdiocesan Center, in a mass broadcast live online via Facebook and via the Sabah Catholic Youth website. Prayer meetings, formation and catechesis meetings, concerts - which saw the virtual participation of more than 2,500 young people - have followed one another until today, July 23, when the closing liturgy and the sending of youth missionary will take place.
