Calcutta (Fides Service) - Jesus speaks Bengali and the Gospel message comes through music in a brand new video Musical in Bengali on the Life of Jesus being produced with the help of various supporters and benefactors including the Salesian Sisters, Daughters of Mary Auxiliatrix in Calcutta. Salesian cooperators in the Calcutta area thought a video on Jesus might be a good way to bring the joy of the Christian message to the young generations. Manobtrata/Jishu or Jesus, Saviour of Humanity is the title of the video which the organisers hope will be ready for release at Easter.
The last scenes are being shot and one of the actors is a well known Indian pop singer Sonajit Mondol. Video publicity expert Anup Kolay who is working on the project said much of the video was filmed on the banks of the River Ganges, and the weather conditions were excellent.
The video is in Bengali a language spoken by 175 million people in India and Bangladesh. A similar project, a series of 15 daily meditations on the meaning of Christmas, was launched by ETV Bangla in December 2005 coordinated by Salesian Fr Robin Gomes, who works with the Social Communications Office of the archdiocese of Calcutta.
