Hidalgo (Agenzia Fides) - "It is with great concern and sadness that we have received the news that our state's Congress has hastily voted on the fundamental human right recognized as universal in all treaties of international law, and particularly applicable to the most defenseless. We all know that life for us Catholics is a gift from God and that all Catholics, like all good people, have a moral duty to protect the human life of the innocent from the moment of conception until their natural end", said Mgr. Domingo Díaz Martínez, Archbishop of Tulancingo; Mgr.José Hiraís Acosta Beltrán, Bishop of Huejutla, and Mgr.Juan Pedro Juárez Meléndez, Bishop of Tula, in a letter addressed to the people of the Mexican state of Hidalgo, to the Governor, to Parliament, to the faithful and to all men of good will .
In their message of 1 July, sent to Fides, the Bishops reiterate that "our commitment has always been and will continue to be in favor of life". Addressing lawmakers, they stress that "a law that legalizes abortion does not meet the demands of the people of Hidalgo", and warn that "they have fallen into the trap set for them by other interests foreign to the identity of our people and our State". Thus, they recall that faced with the difficulties that encounter many women during pregnancy, "actions and institutions are needed to protect them, care for them and the child", while "legalized abortion simply destroys a life and significantly affects the mother".
The Bishops therefore ask "in the most respectful way the governor of the state, to reflect carefully and deeply on the effets that this legislative decision could have for our people". "A decision of such magnitude that changes the value of the life of all people of the state of Hildago cannot be made without consulting the citizens - they conclude -.
