AFRICA/SOUTH AFRICA - Resignation of the Archbishop of Durban and appointment

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Durban (South Africa), presented by His Eminence Cardinal Wilfrid Fox Napier, OFM. T
he Holy Father has appointed Archbishop of the same Metropolitan seat, His Exc. Mgr. Mandla Siegfried Jwara, C.M.M., currently titular bishop of Elefantaria di Proconsolare and Vicar Apostolic of Ingwavuma.
His Exc. Mgr. Mandla Siegfried Jwara, C.M.M., was born on February 1st, 1957 in St. Nivard, Diocese of Mariannhill.
After attending the Kwa-Hluzingqondo school in uMkhomazi, and completing his higher studies, on February 1st, 1981 he entered the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill, in whose monastery he carried out his novitiate. He made his Perpetual Profession in 1986, completing his philosophical and theological formation at the St. Joseph's Theological Institute in Cedara (1982-1986). He was ordained a priest on February 14, 1987.
Subsequently he carried out the following positions and further studies: Parish Vicar and Parish Priest in the Clairvaux Mission in Mpendle, Diocese of Mariannhill (1987-1992); Diploma in Human Development, Leadership, Formation & Community Building at the Institute of St. Anselm, London, England (1992-1993); Novice Master at Mariannhill Monastery, Rector of Merrivale for a short time and Provincial Councilor of the C.M.M. (1993-1998). In 1998 he obtained a Master's Degree in Theology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg. He was also: Superior of the Province of Mariannhill (1998-2002) and General Councilor of the C.M.M. in Rome (2002-2004); Parish priest in Port St. Johns and in the St. Patrick's Mission of the Diocese of Umtata and again Councilor (2005-2006) and Provincial Superior of C.M.M. (2006-2009); Parish Priest of St. Patrick, Diocesan Consultor and Dean of the Eastern Deanery, in the Diocese of Umtata (2009-2014); Regional Superior of the same Diocese and again Parish Priest of the St. Patrick Mission (2014-2016). On April 30, 2016 he was appointed Apostolic Vicar of Ingwawuma and elected to the titular see of Elefantaria di Proconsolare. He received episcopal consecration on the following June 25.
