AFRICA/TANZANIA - Appointment of bishop of Morogoro, His Exc. Mgr. Lazarus Vitalis Msimbe, SDS

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Morogoro, Tanzania, the Reverend Fr. Lazarus Vitalis Msimbe, S.D.S., until now apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same diocese.
Msgr. Lazarus Vitalis Msimbe, S.D.S., was born on 27 December 1963 in Morogoro and was ordained a priest on 21 June 1998.
He studied philosophy at Our Lady of the Angels Major Seminary in Kibosho, diocese of Moshi (1990-1993) and theology at Saint Charles Lwanga Senior Seminary in Segerea, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Dar es Salaam (1993-1998).
He belongs to the Society of the Divine Saviour (Salvatorians) and gave his perpetual vows on 8 December 1994.
He served in the parish of Lukuledi, diocese of Tunduru-Masasi (1998) and was director of Seminaries and Vocations for the province of the Salvatorian Fathers in Tanzania (1998-2002), He went on to serve as master of Salvatorian novices in Nakapanya, Tunduru-Masasi (2002-2005), and provincial superior of the Institute in Tanzania (2005-2011). He the studied civil and canon law, obtaining a doctorate in England at Heythrop College in London, while also providing pastoral service in a number of parishes (2012-2016). He returned to Tanzania in 2016 as a formator of Salvatorian seminarians at Jordan University College in Morogoro, served as bursar of the community and from 2017 to February 2019 as vice-superior provincial of the Salvatorians in Tanzania.
On 13 February 2019 he was appointed apostolic administrator sede plena and on 30 December 2020 apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the diocese of Morogoro. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 31/5/2021)
