Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Busan, Korea, the Reverend Pius Sin Hozol, of the clergy of the same diocese, until now president of the Catholic University of Busan, assigning him the titular see of Belesasa.
Msgr. Pius Sin Hozol was born on 3 September 1968 in Busan. After his primary and secondary school education, he studied philosophy and theology at the Catholic University of Gwangju, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in theology (1989-1993). On 3 February 1996, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Busan.
After ordination, he first served as parish vicar of Goejeong (1996-1997) and Banyeo (1997-1998). He was then awarded a licentiate and doctorate in sacred liturgy at the Pontifical Saint Anselm Athenaeum in Rome (1999-2008). He subsequently served as lecturer at the College of Theology in Busan (2008-2016), member of the Commission for the Liturgy of the Bishops' Conference (CBCK) and member of the Liturgical Commission. At Busan Catholic University, he was assistant professor (2009-2013); administrative office collaborator (2011-2013); library director (2012-2013); associate professor (2013-2016) and chaplain coordinator (2016-2019).
